Virgil Pryor

Virgil Pryor

Virgil is a trial lawyer in the area of healthcare defense, with an emphasis on the defense of physicians in actions for professional negligence and before the Medical Board of California. His practice also includes counseling health care providers in risk management and employment law. Since 1992 he has obtained trial verdicts, judgments before trial, dismissals, and favorable settlements for hundreds of physicians across Northern California. He has also assisted physicians and medical groups in avoiding malpractice claims before they arise.

Virgil's interests include his children, fishing, cooking barbeque, and year-round swimming in the San Francisco Bay. Born in the small town of Georgetown, Kentucky in 1961, Virgil was inspired to practice law by his father, who was the local prosecutor and general practitioner.

Virgil graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in Business Administration. He obtained his law degree in 1990 from the University of San Francisco, where he served as a Director of the Moot Court Board. He clerked for the Honorable Ira A. Brown, Jr., of the San Francisco Superior Court and original co-author of California Practice Guide: Civil Procedure Before Trial. In addition to this position, Virgil supported himself through undergraduate and law studies as a construction laborer, farm hand, cook, and law clerk.

Virgil is admitted to practice in all levels of California State Court, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
